- 고통은 지나가리라 - 르누아르 일화
1. 르누아르는 심한 관절염으로 온 몸이 마비되어 항상 집에 갇혀 살았다. 어느 날 그와 막역한 사이였던 마티스가 르누아르의 집에 들렸다.
2. 그는 온 몸이 뒤틀리는 고통과 싸우면서도 그림을 그리는 르누아르에게 물었다.
3. "그렇게 고통스러워 하면서도 계속 그림을 그리는 이유가 뭔가요? " 르누아르가 대답했다. "고통은 지나가지만 아름다움은 남기 때문이야."
4. 이렇듯 르누아르는 죽는 날까지 그림을 그렸다. 그의 가장 유명한 작품들 중 하나인 <목욕하는 사람들>은 죽기 불과 2년 전에, 온 몸이 마비된지 14년만에 완성한 작품이었다.

hand in hand along with dew
that falls down
when the dawn light touches it.

when along with glow, only two of us
play at the foot of the mountain and
clouds wave their hands.

When the day of the picnic in this beautiful world ends,
I will go and tell it was beautiful.
