성악가 배재철씨.
그는 이탈리아 밀라노 베르디국립음악원에서 수학하면서
세계적인 콩쿠르를 석권했다.
유럽의 여러 성악 대회에서 우승을 거듭했고,
헝가리 미슈콜츠시립극장에서 오페라 주역으로,
2003년 일본 베르디의 <일트로바토레>를 공연했다.
영국에서 <라보엠>을 공연했을 때,
더 타임스는
'아시아에서 100년에 한번 나올까 말까한 목소리' 라고
극찬할 정도였다.
2005년에는
아시아인에게는 좀처럼 기회를 제공하지 않는
독일 자르브뤼켄 극장과 전속계약까지 맺으며
오페라의 신성으로 떠올랐다.
그렇게 활약하던 2005년,
그는 돌연 갑상선암 선고를 받는다.
적출 수술을 받던 중 성대 신경이 끊기고 말았다.
오른쪽 폐 기능까지 잃어버리게 된다.
목소리를 잃어버린 테너라니..
직업적인 사형선고이자,
하늘이 무너져 내리는 충격이었다.
그러나 '결코 포기하지 마라' 는 한 마디 말이
작은 희망의 소리로 들리게 되었고
바로 이 작은 소리에 용기를 얻었다.
이후 그는 피나는 노력 끝에
2011년 4월 20일
더 페이스 콘서트 연주회를 열게 되었다.

Yoo Ji Tae has been putting much effort into transforming into Bae Jae Chul. For over two months, he has been practicing opera singing for more than four hours a day and has been getting language tutors from English and Japanese native speakers. Yoo Ji Tae said, “I want the viewers think that I’m really an opera singer when they watch the movie. I want to do my best.” -
