163. 어느 런던 여성의 사랑이야기-1

비행 잘 했길 바래. 그리고 네 가정이 괜찮길 바래.

Here's my story about how Matt and I meet.

여기 매트와 내가 만난 이야기가 있어.

I was working for a retail merchandising company which looked after various DIY products in B&Q stores. My job was to deal with the suppliers and make sure the team of merchandisers were out in the stores doing what the suppliers had asked them to do.난 소매회사에서 일했었는데 B&Q가게들의 DIY제품들을 다루는 곳이었지. 내 일은 공급업체들 관리하고 상인 팀들이 가게에서 공급업체들의 부탁을 들어주게 하는 것이었어.

 

We needed another member of staff and one of the girls in the office had a friend who needed a job so he was interviewed and got the job.

우리는 직원 한명이 더 필요했고 사무실 여직원들 중 한명이 구직중인 친구가 있었는데, 그 친구가 면접보고 취직했지.

This was Matt. Because he had never done a job like this before he had to go through training with his regional manager so he knew what was required of him in his new job.

이 사람이 매트였지. 이런 일을 해 본적이 없어서 그의 지역 매니저에게 훈련을 받아야 해서, 자신에게 요구되는 새 일을 알게 되었지.

 

My role meant that I worked in the office most of the time, so when new employees started, they also went into the office.

This is when I first meet Matt and because his territory was by the office he would pop in to get additional paperwork or drop things off on a regular basis so we started talking.

나의 역할의 의미는 내가 사무실에서 대부분의 시간을 보내기 때문에 새 직원들이 일을 시작하면,

사무실에도 들리게 된다는 것이었다.

 

We talked about different types of music that we liked and discovered that some of his favourite songs were also mine. 우리는 좋아하는 음악 타입 이야길 나눴고 몇몇 곡들은 나의 곡들과 같다는 것을 알았다.

I discovered that he played golf and I had just started to try and play myself.

내 알아낸 건 그가 골프를 하며 나도 막 치기 시작했다는 것이다.

So he offered to give me some lessons and we arranged to meet at my local driving range

그는 내게 레슨을 가르쳐 줄 것을 제안했고 지역의 내 운전 가능 범위 안에서 만날 약속을 했다.

 

On the day I had that butterfly feeling in my stomach and when I arrived I could tell that Matt was really nervous too.

그날 나는 마음이 조마조마 했지만 가보니 매트도 역시 안절부절 못하고 있었다.

 

The day went really well. I learnt some new techniques on my swing and we had some laughs too, But all too quickly it was time to go our separate ways. 그날 하루는 정말 잘 지나갔고, 나는 몇 가지 새 스윙 기술들을 배웠으며 같이 웃었다. 그러나 너무 빨리 헤어질 시간이 다가왔다

 

 

. I knew there was a cafe there and thought it would be nice for us to have a coffee after we had finished but to my dismay it was closed for refurbishment so we had to depart.

카페가 하나 있는 걸 알았고 커피 한잔 하면 좋겠다고 여겼지만 보수 공사로 문이 닫혀 있어 헤어져야 했다.

As we said our goodbye. Matt gave me a gentle kiss on the cheek, it made the butterflies go crazy in my tummy and my heart skip a beat.

작별하면서, 매트가 볼에 살짝 키스를 해줬는데, 그것이 날 미치게 만들어 심장이 멈추는 듯 했다.

 

 

 

164. 어느 런던 여성의 사랑이야기-2

 

I couldn't stop thinking about that feeling all the way home and as soon as I got home, Matt was calling to make sure I had got there safely.

집에 오는 내내 그 기분에 빠져있었고, 집에 오자마자 매트가 전화해서 잘 왔는지를 물었다.

 

We spoke to each other every day from then on and the following week Matt came over to my house to cook dinner for us both.

우리는 서로 매일 이야기 나누기 시작했고 그 다음 주에 매트는 우리 집에 와서 요리를 했다.He overcooked the chicken but to me it was the best meal I had ever eaten. This was the start of our relationship and we

 both new that what we had between us was very special.

매트는 치킨 요리를 과하게 했지만 내가 먹어본 요리 중 최고의 식사였다. 이것이 우리 관계의 시작이었고 우리 둘 사이에는 서로 특별한 뭔가가 있음을 알게 되었다.

We enjoyed the same things, eating, drinking wine, playing golf to watching a good film.

우리는 같은 것들을 즐겼고, 같이 먹고 와인을 마시며 골프를 하고 영화도 봤다.

 

Soon Matt moved in with me and we started planning our future. We both knew we were meant to be and felt very comfortable with each other so we planned our first holiday together.

곧 매트는 내 집에 왔고 우리는 미래 계획을 세우기 시작했다. 우리 둘 다 우리는 서로 운명이며 서로 매우 편해서 우리의 휴일을 함께 계획했다.

 

We went to Santorini a Greek island and it was absolutely beautiful. I had always know I would visit the island one day and it holds very special memories for both of us.

우리는 그리스 산토리니 섬으로 갔는데 정말 아름다운 곳이었다. 나는 항상 언젠가 이 섬을 올 줄 알았는데, 우리 둘에게 특별한 추억들을 안겨주는 곳이었다.

 

We hired a little car and it was so rubbish it didn't go into second gear and would really struggle to get up hills but we drove around the whole island visiting an art gallery in an old vineyard and ancient ruins at the top of a very scary winding road.

우린 작은 차를 임대했다. 너무 쓰레기 같아서 2단 기어도 잘 안 먹 언덕 올라가느라 고생은 좀 했지만 옛 포도원 내의 미술 화랑도 과 아주 무서운 구부러진 도로 꼭대기에 있는 고대 유적들도 둘러보며 섬전체를 돌아다녔다.

 

We tasted the local wines in vineyards and watched the amazing sunsets from cliff edges and hill tops and I also managed to get a fantastic suntan by lying around the swimming pool.

우리는 포도원의 지방 와인도 맛보고 절벽 끝과 언덕 꼭대기에서 놀라운 일몰도 구경하였고, 나는 수영장 근처에서 선탠도 멋지게 하였었지.

 

 

165.어느 런던 여성의 사랑이야기-3

 

Matt and I knew we were going to get married at some stage in our relationship but had not discussed when, so we went for a walk in Kensington gardens one cold October afternoon

.매트와 나는 우리 관계에서 어느 단계에선 결혼할 것을 알았지만, 언제인지는 말해 보지 않았기에 켄싱턴 정원을 어느 추운 10월의 오후에 걸어갔다.

 

I had no idea that he was going to propose to me. We were in my favourite part of the gardens, the walled garden with the walkway all around it and we sat on a bench to admire the fantastic formal garden which lay in front of us.

난 매트가 내게 프로포즈할 것인지 몰랐다. 우리는 정원의 제일 좋은 앉았는데, 벽으로 된 곳으로 주변에 산책로가 있었고 우리는 벤치에 앉아 우리 앞의 멋진 정원의 모습에 감탄했다.

 

Matt started to talk about all the good times we had had together and how we had worked at our relationship to make it really strong, he made me laugh and made me cry and when he pulled out a tissue for me to wipe my eyes, a beautiful ring was hidden in the tissue.

매트는 우리가 함께 했던 좋은 시간들과 우리가 우리 관계를 강하게 만들기 위해 어떻게 노력해 왔는지에 관해 말하기 시작했고, 나를 웃겼다가 울렸다가 했다. 그리고 매트는 눈물을 닦을 티슈를 전해주었는데, 그 안에는 아름다운 반지가 숨겨져 있었다.

 

He then said to me that he would be honoured if I would become his wife and would I marry him!! I, of course said yes!!!! 그리고 매트는 내게 아내가 되어주면 영광이겠다고 말하였고 난 결혼하여 했지. 물론 예스라고 대답했고!*

이 여성은 아이가 둘이나 딸린 미혼모였지만, 총각인 매트는 사랑이 있었기에 개의치 않았다는 이야기입니다.

조건 따지고 격식따지고 주변 사람들 따지다가 될 것도 잘 안 되는,

현재의 대한민국 결혼문화에 시사하는 바가 크다고 하겠습니다.
