blend: v. mix, mingle, combine  n. mixture, combination

blind: n. sightless

 

 

분사의 특수 용법

1. 준(의사)분사 (Quasi-Participle)

 

* 명사의 끝에 일반 규칙 동사처럼 -(e)d를 붙여 과거분사의 형태로 쓰이는 것이다.

예-1) A blue-eyed-girl = a girl who has blue eyes (파란 눈의 소녀)

예-2) One-eyed Jack = Jack who has one eye    (한 쪽 눈의 잭)

 

 

 

2. 분사의 연결 형태

1) 명사 + 현재분사

- The pain-killing drug (진통제) = The drug that kills pain (고통을 죽이는 약)

-The sleep-disturbing noises (수면을 방해하는 소음)=(The noises that disturb sleep-수면 방해하는 소음)

2) 형용사 + 과거분사

- Terror-stricken citizens (공포에 질린 시민들) = Citizens who are struck by terror

3) 명사 + 현재분사

- The tight-fitting shoes (꽉 끼는 신발) = The shoes that fit tight.

4) 부사 + 과거분사

- A newly-married couple (신혼 부부) = A couple who  is newly married

 

 

 

3. 명사적 용법

 

* 형용사의 경우와 같이 그 앞에 The를 붙인다. 복수나 단수 양쪽으로 다 쓰인다.

- The living (생명체), The dying (죽어가는 사람들), The dead (죽은 사람들) The unknown(무명)

  The deceased (죽은 사람들)

 

 

 

4. 부사적 용법

 

* 현재 분사가 형용사를 수식하여 부사 very의 뜻으로 쓰이기도 한다.

- It is boiling (burning, scorching, steaming) hot. (매우 덥다.)

- It was piercing (freezing, biting) cold yesterday. (어제는 매우 추웠다.)

 

 

 

5. 접속사적 용법

* 현재분사나 과거분사가 전치사나 접속사의 대용으로 쓰인다.

1) about = considering, concerning, regarding(관하여)

..>> regrading with, concerning to 등은 안 되니 주의!

2) if = provided(providing) that (만약-라면)

3) though = granting (granted) that (비록-일지라도)

4) since = seeing that (이니까, 때문에)
